The special effects? A joke, even for the time it was made. They keep showing THE Tower as if its supposed to wow kids the eighteenth time they show it. The stiff, wooden guards for the Queen? The Sleestack were scarier in the LOTL tv series. And moved faster.

When the father goes into the bookstore and the old guy wont tell him where his son is, but instead gives him the book and tells him to look there, I was like, WTF? Any father I know would grab the guy and threaten to smash his skull in if he didnt tell him everything he knows right now!

I know comparing eras is a pointless endeavor (tho the Wiazrd of Oz holds up well), but compared to even a pedestrian modern fantasy kids film like Spiderwick Chronicles the NS sucks beyond all possible description of suck! My kid IS ten and she thought it bit hard cheese (and she liked Adam Sandlers Bedtime Stories, for crying out loud, so its not like she has such refined tastes).

Bottom line? I never saw it back when I was young (Im 44 now) and am glad I didnt. The most puzzling thing to me? How did a number of people, from writers to producers to directors, actually OKAY this laughably horrific venture, and how did any reviewers praise it (check Rotten Tomatoes)? I know it was a celebrated book, but the film is dreadful. To call it diarrhea would ennoble it.

Re: Transformers

Ugh, I hate this movie.

Re: Matt Resurfaces Ever So Briefly

The other blog is great reading, even for conservative lurkers like myself. ;)

"Verizon only permits firmware on their phones (though that’s scheduled to change next year), so the we’re stuck with the Teleca Obigo Q7.0-1.3. " Can you tell me what you know of Verizons's future plans for the DARE? I can re-up in 4-09 and get a DARE, but would like to know if and when something new is coming out(software or hardware). Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you said, compromise happens; life happens. We don't always get what we want. The final third, where we see life without George Bailey, isn't simply to show what life would be like without George, but to show the impact we each have on one another's lives, for good or for ill. The over-emphasized charicature displayed is meant --in my opinion-- to help convey that message.

You said you understood what Capra was trying to say, but I felt the need to clarify anyway. ;)

Re: LG Dare Completes Matt’s Life

You're welcome, for the generator. Welcome to my home!

Obviously we disagree on the teachings from the Bible on sexual matters. I tend to agree that the teachings are clear, but my clarity is vastly different than yours. I also disagree with your assessment of the implications of Genesis 2.

God is bigger than you're giving Him credit for. God's church, if His people are working from pure motives, will continue to grow closer to His vision. Ain't it grand?

Re: United Methodist Church Shames God

For a church to be in good standing with God, its doctrines and teachings must line up with Biblical truth. The teachings from the Bible on sexual matters are clear-- God even goes so far as to name the categories of people one is not to have sex with and states that to have sex with them is sin. More broadly, sex outside marriage is forbidden, even lustful thoughts and feelings are a sin, and the marriage relationship was designed by God and is is defined by God, in Genesis 2, as being between a man and woman- and this is restated by Jesus in the gospels. Therefore, it is very clear. A chruch that sides with God's word on these matters will be called many derogatory things in this progressively more sinful (as the Bible says it will become) society. To stand firm with God on his teachings is to glorify God, not shame Him.
